Mr.Means originally hails from a small farming community in rural Maryland. His work often seeks to evoke the nostalgic longing for a return to the time and place of happy childhood memories. Drawing inspiration from parades, marching bands, beauty queens, imaginary friends, birthday parties and carnivals, Mr. Means’ imagery can at once be both sophisticated and kitschy, as he turns his distinctive eye on unexpected subjects. His photographs ask the viewer to consider deconstructed meanings behind the melancholic loss of youth and innocence and by-gone times.

Means experiments with complicated lighting tricks and techniques to add a surreal, other-worldliness to his photographs. His work captures childhood artifacts, obscure tchotchkes and cultural iconography set against flawless backgrounds, bringing inanimate objects to life and creating an off-kilter and slightly skewed perspective on American life past and present.

His work spans the range from high-end products and fashion editorials to unique still life and surrealistic portraiture. His editorial work has appeared in Interview, Details, Detour, Out and Spin magazines.

Currently, Mr.Means is working on an archival photographic book titled, No Dancing Allowed, a collection of his photographs capturing New York City nightlife from 1997 to 2003.Mr.Means photography services are available for commercial, corporate and private bookings. Email - mrmeansstudio@gmail.com
